Overview

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, conversational approach designed to strengthen a person’s motivation and commitment to change. It’s especially useful for people who feel stuck or unsure about making important changes in their lives.

Rather than pushing or directing, MI respects your autonomy and helps you find your own reasons to move forward.

What Happens in MI?

Your therapist will listen reflectively and help you explore ambivalence (e.g., “part of me wants to change, but part of me doesn’t”). You’ll identify your core values, envision your ideal future, and build confidence in your ability to take steps toward it.

MI helps resolve internal conflict and shift resistance gently and respectfully.
